So this Sunday (19th August) saw the "Festival Italia" return to Brands Hatch, the event being a relatively new addition to the calender is therefore still building / establishing itself.
Thankfully the weather held and despite being a little breezy during the early part of the day there was plenty of sun and importantly no rain. From the moment you entered the site it was obvious there were was plenty for the italian car enthusiat, with displays from clubs and individuals covering most if not all italian marques.
The Alfa and Ferrari clubs were pretty prominent and there were more Fiat Coupes parked together than I would have believed were still on the road. Most of the vehicles on display probably dated from somewhere between the 70's to current day, so it would be nice to see some earlier cars at future events and would no doubt help take it to the next level.
There was no "Maserati Club" evident which was a shame and surely something that could be sorted for next year? A number from "Sports Maserati" did attend but were not visible as a club and seemed to disappear quite early, which was a shame and seems wrong?
On track there were Historic Abarth and F1 demonstrations, it was good to hear the sound of proper F1 cars and the natural amphitheatre of the venue makes the most of it. The racing was provided by the BRSCC Alfa Romeo Championship, Ferrari Club Racing, Italiano vs Inglese Allcomers Race and Pirelli Ferrari Formula Classic. There were also parade laps for italian bikes as well as cars. The venue's corners were given Italian names for the day to add to the Italian vibe.
Off track there was wine tasting and Italian lessons, although these had to be pre-booked, a band stand where a number of italian themed performances were given, it was a nice place to relax in the sun and listen to the music, fairground rides and an italian market / village - this could have done with a few more vendors.
There was an impromptu flypast from the Red Arrows - the RAF's famous flying troupe were returning to Biggin Hill from a cancelled show in Eastbourne.
