My wife Carla has always loved VW campers and has often talked about owning one. She likes both the split screen and bay although with the prices of split screens, we would struggle to be able to afford or justify one. For my part I have never been a big VW fan although always thought the Campers were pretty cool.
After looking at adverts online for campers that were too expensive or needed far too much work, Carla decided it might be an idea to hire one and see if the experience lived up to the "dream" on top of that she always likes a holiday! She therefore booked 3 nights with a company in Devon called Coas2Coast Camper Hire in a camper called Bluebell a 1973, right hand drive, Westfalia Bay window campervan - needless to say she was pretty excited.
The weekend of the August bank holiday and the evening before we were due to go down and collect "Bluebell" we receive a call from Coast2Coast saying that the van had been involved in an accident on its way back to their yard. Apparently another driver turned out of a junction without looking to the left at all, and drove directly in to the driver side of Bluebell, sending her and her passengers (2 newlyweds) careering off the road.
Amazingly nobody was hurt in the accident which is the main thing, it also shows that the work carried out by Coast2Coast is to a good standard and they provided a good solid vehicle, hopefully the van can be saved.
Unfortunately however it seemed our trip might be over before it had even begun!
