The 13th Masters Historic Festival at Brands Hatchtakes place this weekend (May 25 - 26) and is the flagship UK event for the Masters Drivers Club and promises to be bigger and better in 2019.
The Brands Hatch GP circuit is a fast and technical challenge for drivers and is one of the few circuits on the clubs schedule that retains its original layout. The event will host the second Rounds of the FIA Masters Historic Formula One and FIA Masters Historic Sports Car Championship as well as bumper grids for the Gentlemen Drivers and Masters Pre-66 Touring cars for their first UK round. The timetable will be supported by grids from HSCC Historic Formula 2, Equipe GTS and the Dutch Youngtimer series.
The Historic Formula One Championshiprecreates the sights and sounds of the iconic machines from the 1970s and 80s. Expect cars from evocative teams including Williams, Brabham, McLaren and Lotus, with a glorious soundtrack to accompany them.
The FIA Masters Historic Sports Car Championship returns, recalling the Brands Hatch 1000km races from the 1960s and 70s and featuring iconic cars from Chevron, Porsche, Lola and Ferrari.
Classic tin top action will come from the Masters Pre-66 Touring Cars, serving as a reminder of the BTCC’s early days when cars varied from large American V8s right down to the legendary Mini, while additional single seater action will come from the HSCC’s Historic Formula 2 category.
Across two days, this unique celebration of motorsport’s glorious history will be completed by a Gentlemen Drivers line-up with pre-1966 GT cars, and a guest grid from the Dutch Youngtimers, featuring more touring cars. The retro vibe extends away from the track too, with huge classic car displays and live music.
A series of demonstrations from retro F1 cars will provide plenty of entertainment this weekend, with several incredible machines set to rev up and take to the track. These include a Benneton B190, a Dallara F191 and an extremely rare Honda R8 1082 that was used by Honda as a test mule for the KERS systems devised for the 2009 season.
