I bought my 1st E back in 2001, an early 4.2 FHC built 3rd of november 64 , they only started making the 4.2 in the october ,
I used this car for high days and sundays , until Id finished building my modified sprite , when I then put it in a carcoon and more or less forgot about it , and then about 2008 I thought about selling it to make way for an Ultima I was looking for /at , but my wife Tracey persuaded me to swap it with her for a 59 frogeye sprite she owned , so it stayed in the family , fast forward to Le Mans classic 2014 , and while walking around the paddocks I spotted a race series 1 FHC that really caught my eye, and this gave me an idea ,"I could build somthing like that " so for the rest of the holiday in the south of France I was on many classic car web sites ,looking for E Type Jags and I spotted one , in Deal , near Dover kent , I live at the top end of kent so this was a result
so the day after I came back from holiday I was down in Deal doing a deal on my new (to me ) E Type 13 and a half grand later it was mine , which was only 300 quid short of what I paid for the series 1 in 2001 ,
my plans with the car were /are to build it into a series 1 , with a series 1 alli bonnet , that take's care of open head lamps into enclosed and smaller mouth in one hit , also its lots lighter , also to fit alli doors and tailgate , plus dunlop alloys , 5 speed gearbox , tuned engine along with tripple webers , not much in the way of interior , a pair of race seats and a full FIA cage
but 1st there was some remedial work was needed
the floors had been cut out in places , but once the seats , and centre consul were removed , I could see that all the floors and sills would need replacing
so I began to strip the car down 1st removing engine and gear box , the bonnet was obviously pulled off and sold on quite early on in the strip ,
the 1st bit of body I unpicked the spot welds , this 1st part was hard going and boring , but as the strip went on I got better and more used to finding and dealing with these welds by the time I got to the oposite side this part only took 20 minuets to take out
