Fiat have recently joined the electric new power generation with their 500e, a modern take on an Italian Icon, but what if another classic Fiat was given the electric treatment, well it seems the clever guys at MA-DE, the international award-winning design studio based in Como, just one hour north of Milan, have such a vision.
The Fiat 126 (Type 126) was a four passenger rear-engined city car, introduced by Fiat in October 1972 at the Turin Auto Show as a replacement for the Fiat 500; it was one of the most successful model with a total production of almost 4.7 million units.
MA-DE have recreated the little Fiat In this new concept the 126 without it losing its identity, but rather it is strengthened. With this 126 Vision they have decided to preserve, adopting a new interpretation, the contour and some unmistakable stylistic elements, such as the roof tapered at the rear and the squared headlights dominated by the character line that Surrounds the vehicle.
The Fiat Vision 126 has a true balance of vintage and modern, featuring square headlights to resemble the original car, making it slightly slimmer would it a slightly more modern look and would take off some visual bulk from the front. This very special 126 features radial vents in a way where they are integrated within the steel cap which is similar to the original wheel design. A Fiat enthusiast and automotive engineer suggested putting the side turn indicators back on the side fenders to keep a little more of Type 126 intact and perhaps redesigning the outside mirror stalk as a straight line which will form the base of the mirror itself giving it a more refined look.
The Vision 126 is an awesome project, with all the very bland and boring electric cars now available, this particular little Fiat by MA-DE proves that modern cars can look pretty good with classic looks in this electrifying future in the auto world.
