So me and my other half Tracey have buggered off down to South of France in her Lotus Elise S 2 (complete with air con ) 1stly the buggering off part
The , usually we would take the eurostar , in fact we was booked on it until Thursday evening , and then with the duck (polite word ) up at Calais we cancelled and went Newhaven -- Dieppe and would recommend , slightly longer (4hrs) crossing , but cheaper and chucks you out further down the country only just over an hour to get parallel with Paris , in total the journey took 12 hrs in one hit , including a stop for lunch and a couple of comfort breaks , the more south we got the higher the fan speedwent on the air conditioning ? South of Lyon and it was full on.
We have toured the Lotus before and usually camping in/with it, but this time we have the luxury of a challet , so no boot cover with integral boot rack , that I designed a couple of years back needed this time, all our clothes and media gear , two Tablet's Two Gopro's, four phones .untold chargers ,all fitted in, I kid you not ,getting the Lotus on to ferry , gone the old days of wynch, chains , and a big pallet , they have modern things called ramps now , but these still looked low /wrong angle to get a low lotus on easily , but a nice seaman bloke crouched down and saw us safely on ,
The 1st part of journey was fairly quiet and quick , being 5.30 (French time ) in the morning, but as the hours past and more frenchies woke up the motorways got busier , and more thumbs up were noted .I think it helps that the car is black with more than a few smattering of gold bits , and this being the relevant colours of Lotus In F1 at the moment Help the car stand out /give it cudos ??
From Grenoble to where we are based is the Rue de Nipolean and this runs through the the alps , I think the funny hat wearing short dictator built it with Lotus in mind , although it's only 170 miles from Grenoble to where we are ,it took at least as half as long as the journey to Grenoble from Dieppe , but the roads are the nuts with cliff face on one side and shear drop on the other , it keeps the concentration levels at 11 for sure
I wish I could post some photos but I'm only on my phone (not bought my Virginia media complete package with me ) but for the rest of the week I've got some exellent passes to explore and I will pop down to Monaco on the posing Saturday Evening
