Round 10 - British GP
This weekend sees the F1 circus return to Silverstone for the British Grand Prix. There will be plenty of interest in Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg this weekend given the recent incidents between the two main contenders for the world championship.
Mercedes team-mates Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg have been given a "final warning" by team bosses and will be severely punished if they crash again. They are still free to race but Mercedes have introduced "much greater deterrents to contact between our cars" and the drivers face "sporting and financial consequences". Toto Wolff has refused to give details of the potential punishments but has hinted it could include suspensions from races. Lewis Hamilton will attempt to equal Nigel Mansell's British record of four F1 wins at the Northamptonshire circuit.
It has been confirmed that Kimi Raikkonen will be retained by Ferrari for the 2017 season, meaning an unchanged driver line-up at the Scuderia , with Raikkonen again partnering Sebastian Vettel.
Jenson Button is hoping for a strong home GP as he and McLaren team mate Fernando Alonso will benefit from a Honda engine upgrade. Following the introduction of a new turbocharger in Canada, which improved efficiency with a modest loss of power, Honda have brought their first of several intended steps of ICE (internal combustion engine) improvement to Silverstone, in the form of revised intake systems on both McLarens.
While it’s unlikely to make a huge performance difference, the intake upgrade puts the power back to what it was before Canada, while the new turbo introduced then continues to add to the powertrain’s effectiveness.
With this upgrade using two engine development tokens, the team have a further 10 to spend before the end of the season.
